CHICO, Calif. - A group of people in Chico spent part of their weekend taking it upon themselves to be the difference they want to see.
A citizen-led volunteer group kicked off the Saint Patrick’s Day Sunday holiday by cleaning trash and debris from the roadside, along Cohasset Road in North Chico.
The group of eight volunteers started at the corner of Cohasset and Eaton Roads, then worked their way north toward the Chico Municipal Airport.
This is the second week in a row community members came together for the effort to remove litter, trash and debris from the road.
Volunteer Shelly Rogers said she decided to help, because quite often, individuals want someone else to do something and then one realized “you” could be the person who does that. She says then you do it and the project is done. She says the catalyst is that you have to be one to decide and once you tackle it, you are halfway there.
The City of Chico Public Works Department sent a truck to haul away bags of debris collected.
Thursday, April 21, 2019, the City is hosting the Annual Spring Volunteer Orientation event, for those wishing to learn more about how they can get involved.
