CHICO, Calif. -- Identifying available real estate to be used for affordable housing can often be a “top of mind’ issue for policy-makers throughout the state.
The City of Chico is no exception. Friday, January 31, 2020 was to be the deadline for a “Request for Information” put forth by the city, to receive information and concepts for affordable housing solutions. The properties available for consideration is city or other governmental-owned land.
A more than 100-page document outlines the dozens of available properties and guidelines for submission.
Chico City Manager Mark Orme explains there is a great deal of interest in the topic, from the state capital to local municipalities. However, he says this latest call for information has been slow to bring in response.
“The Governor and the City of Chico are seeing through the same lenses and understanding that we need help in supplying that [affordable housing],” explained Orme.
As of Thursday, January 30th, Orme said the city had received just one submission packet.
Given that, he plans to extend the deadline for this Request for Information perhaps as long as another two months, to give interested parties more time to submit information.
