UPDATE 6:00 p.m. Saturday, June 15, 2019 - Firefighters stopped a 20-acre fire that broke out right outside the city of Chico on Saturday afternoon. It was called the 32 Fire.

The 32 Fire broke out near Humboldt Road and Highway 32 just after 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, 2019.

Chico Fire and CAL FIRE responded to the scene when it was three to five acres in size, moving with a moderate rate of spread.

A southerly wind pushed the flames until the fire grew to nearly 20 acres.

CAL FIRE Public Information Officer (PIO) Rick Carhart told Action News Now reporter Christina Vitale that resources arrived quickly - both by ground and by air.

Carhart said the fire was in a rural area and posed no threat to houses or people.

Crews are still out there monitoring the area on Saturday evening.

"There will be little areas where there's still smoke coming up -- and if we see those we wanna get those out, 'cause those can actually sit here into the night, over night into tomorrow," said Carhart.

"And if it gets hot and really dry and windy tomorrow those little smokes that may have gotten left yesterday could restart this fire again -- and we don't want that to happen," he continued.

Carhart said the fire has been fully contained as of this time. The investigation of this fire is still continuing.
