NORTH OF REDDING, Calif. - Here is the latest on the Delta Fire.

NOTE: (The video is from the 6:00 p.m. newscast. The acreage figures were updated by the Forest Service during our broadcast. The containment information in the video is incorrect, but the correct containment is in the article below. (56 percent at this time).

The Siskiyou County Sheriff has lifted the evacuation warning for the town of Dunsmuir. That evacuation warning has been in place for 10 days.

Siskiyou County Sheriff Jon Lopey says the Delta Fire had burned about 14 miles south of Dunsmuir.

Momentum on the fire has slowed, according to officials. Crews say favorable conditions helped them gain a 13 percent increase in containment overnight, and even more containment on Saturday afternoon. The Delta Fire is now more than 60,000 acres in size and is 56 percent contained.

Action News Now reporter Elizabeth Zelidon spoke with officials and explained what crews will be doing overnight Saturday.

"As you can see," said Zelidon, "... it's a lot clearer than it has been over the last few days." She said that is due to the great successes fire crews have achieved on containing the fire.

Fire officials do stress that this success does not mean the fire fight is over. They have been able to take advantage of the cooler weather and higher humidity to get a better handle on the fire, which has been burning for ten days.

Delta Fire Public Information Officer Brad Bihum said, "Each day brings a new fight, and Saturday's warmer temperatures could mean a lot more work.

Firefighters told Zelidon that they are monitoring the area of Sims Road in Castella closely overnight, which is where most of the fire activity is currerntly occuring.

They said if needed, they will be ready to fight the fire at Sims Road.

All remaining evacuation orders are being reassessed at this time, according to officials.

The first weekend of autumn was pleasant for northern California, but our relatively tranquil weather will change soon. A Pacific storm is approaching the West Coast, and it will bring our area rain showers and gusty wind soon.
