SHASTA COUNTY, Calif. - The South Fire burning in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest, west of Red Bluff has grown to 5,209 acres. The fire has reached 61% containment as of Sept. 21. The cause of the fire is due to lightning.
The fire started Thursday, Sept. 5 approximately at 1:45 p.m. According to Inciweb, their estimated containment date is Tuesday, Oct. 1.
Crews will continue to scout and construct direct and indirect fireline. They also said favorable weather conditions are helping efforts to put out the fire.
