REDDING, Calif. - Redding Fire crews responded to two transient related fires Tuesday morning.
The first was a vacant house in disrepair on the 2000 Block of Victor Ave. The house was completely involved before the arrival of the first fire engine. Fire investigators said they determined transients squatting in the house started it after interviewing neighbors.
Crews remained on scene for a two-hour mop-up.
A transient woman is in custody now charged with arson for the second. This fire was discovered by Redding Police officers near Rescue Mission. It burned on a sidewalk when engines arrived.
The Redding Fire Department Investigator discovered burns on the side of the Rescue Mission building as well.
The transient woman was interviewed when found in the area. Officers determined she was responsible for the fire and took her for booking into Shasta County Jail.
Redding Fire Department estimates damages for the two fires at $100,000.
