CHICO, Calif. - Saturday a World War II veteran and Camp Fire survivor received a "Quilt of Valor" to recognize him for his military service.

The Quilt of Valor Foundation recognizes military veterans across the country. Their representatives traveled all the way from Pennsylvania after they heard about Dennis Decker, who was one of many veterans who lost homes in Paradise during the Camp Fire.

Friends and family surprised Decker and his wife with the presentation of the quilt at their 70th wedding anniversary celebration in Chico on Saturday.

The WWII veteran said the honor was, "Unbelievable! It's heartwarming. It's so nice."

His wife of 70 years, Barbara Decker, said the love and the wonderful family that they have had over the years is overwhelming.

"God has been good to us," she said.

The couple lost their home in the Camp Fire but have since found a place to live in Chico.
