Thermalito School Fire Damages Playground Equipment

Fire personnel from two agencies put out a fire at an Oroville school on Sunday.

UPDATE 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018 - An official from the Oroville Fire Department told Action News Now that the cause of the fire is unknown, but they consider the circumstances to be suspicious. Anyone with information pertaining to this fire is asked to contact the Oroville Police Department.

OROVILLE, Calif. - The playground of Plumas Avenue School in Oroville was the scene of a fire on Sunday.

The fire was reported at approximately 2:30 p.m. The Oroville Fire Department and CAL FIRE Butte Unit responded. The fire was burning rubber mulch that was on the playground that was made out of recycled materials.

Viewer Kyle Wills is a parent of a student who attends the school. He says the school does not have very much money and will be hard-pressed to replace the damaged playground equipment. Wills sent us the photos of the fire that you can see in our Photo Gallery.

Action News Now is reaching out to the Oroville Fire Department to get more information on the fire and its cause.
