New Series of Fires in Cottonwood Sunday Morning May Be Arson

Six different roadside vegetation fires were reported in Cottonwood early Sunday morning. Investigators are seeking tips, information and surveillance videos of the fire locations.

COTTONWOOD, Calif. - A series of vegetation fires were quickly contained in Cottonwood early Sunday morning. The Shasta County Sheriff's Office is investigating and is requesting anyone with video surveillance in this morning's fire areas to contact the Major Crime Unit immediately at (530) 245-6135. The first fire was reported Sunday morning at Trefoil Lane just west of Balls Ferry Road at 2:58 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018.

Other roadside vegetation fires were reported over the next couple of hours. Here are the locations of the Sunday morning fires.

Trefoil Lane just west of Balls Ferry Road
Cremia Place at Manzi Way (Rhonda Road)
Gas Point Road west of Della Lane, Cottonwood
Main Street south of Front Street
Yokum Road at Cinnabar Road
Balls Ferry Road at Woolery Lane

No structures were damaged and there were no injuries reported.

Members of the Shasta County Arson Task Force and Shasta County Sheriff's Office, Major Crime Unit are currently investigating these fires which are considered suspicious and believed to be set by a person or persons.

Investigators and detectives are reviewing evidence with the previously set fires to determine if there are any similarities.

Authorities say specific details about the Cottonwood fires, correlations between all the fires and investigative efforts cannot be released for the integrity of their overall investigation.

The Excessive Heat Warning will expire on Thursday evening, but we'll stay hot on Friday. There's a chance for active weather as early as Friday night, and a very good chance for active weather on Saturday. We'll also be much cooler this weekend.
