SHASTA COUNTY, Calif.- The Zogg Fire burned through Ono and parts of Igo. But not everyone got out of town.

Bill Bushnell lives on Zogg Mine Road. But today, his home still stands. He stayed behind to keep the Zogg Fire from burning down his house.

“I was forewarned by a neighbor of mine downtown,” said Bushnell. “I had just been outside and he called and said that Zogg Mine Road was on fire.”

When Bushnell stepped out of his home, he saw the flames. Bushnell said he decided to stay because, for him, his home is all he had.

“It's all I got,” said Bushnell. “[I have] nothing else.”

Bushnell used his own equipment and jumped into action.

“My excavator that's sitting behind the shop right there is what basically saved the house,” said Bushnell.

But even though Bushnell's home is still standing, seeing all the devastation and burn scars left behind breaks his heart.

“Sad, just sad, you know the fires are devastating all over,” said Bushnell. “I don't care where or who, it's just awful.”

A cold front has moved over northern California on this day before Thanksgiving, and it brought light rain and snow showers to the higher terrain, gusty wind and cooler air for all. Thanksgiving will still be breezy, but also mild and pleasant.
