Gilbert Fire is 100% contained

The Gilbert Fire is now 100% contained at 30 acres, according to CAL FIRE.

UPDATE 11:23 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2019 - The Gilbert Fire is now 80% contained. The fire has burned 30 acres.

UPDATE 8:23 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, 2019 - The evacuations for the Gilbert Fire in the Palo Cedro area have been lifted for residents, but anyone else should stay out of the area. The Red Cross Shelter that was set up at Junction Elementary School has been closed.

The fire burned 25 acres according to the latest reports from CAL FIRE officials.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

UPDATE 6:50 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, 2019 - According to CAL FIRE the forward progress of the Gilbert Fire has been stopped. The fire grew to between 20-25 acres in size. There are 18 engines on scene at this time. Some of the planes involved in the aerial attack of the fire are being released.

The Shasta County Sheriff said a Red Cross evacuation center is opening at Junction Elementary School located at 9087 Deschutes Road in Palo Cedro.

UPDATE 6:40 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, 2019 - The evacuations for the Gilbert Fire have stayed the same as earlier, which is is north of Highway 44 and south of Sunnyoaks Drive. This area is located east of Logan and west of Deschutes. This information is from the Redding California Highway Patrol.

The slow lane of Highway 44 is closed in the area to make room for firefighting and other emergency vehicles. The California Highway Patrol is controlling traffic on Highway 44 at this time. Old Highway 44 is still closed between Stillwater and Deschutes.

UPDATE 6:00 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, 2019 - The fire is now 15-20 acres in size.

UPDATE 5:42 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, 2019 - Evacuations have been ordered in the Palo Cedro area due to the Gilbert Fire.

The evacuation area is north of Highway 44 and south of Sunnyoaks Drive. This area is located east of Logan and west of Deschutes. This information is from the Redding California Highway Patrol.

The CHP is doing traffic control on Highway 44.  Old 44 is closed at Stillwater and Deschutes.

UPDATE 5:35 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, 2019 - The Gilbert Fire is now 10-15 acres in size according to CAL FIRE officials. There is a comprehensive aerial attack taking place with multiple air tankers and helicopters.

PALO CEDRO, Calif. - Crews are trying to knock down a 10-acre vegetation fire that started close to Highway 44 near Gilbert Drive in Palo Cedro.

The Gilbert Fire was reported to be five acres in size at approximately 4:21 when it was first called in to CAL FIRE.

The fire has jumped over Old Highway 44 and is threatening multiple homes in the area.

15 fire engines are on the scene.

Traffic is being shut down on Old 44 between Deschutes Road and Stillwater.

We do not know yet if there will be evacuations, but CAL FIRE officials want all residents in the area to remain prepared.
