Forward progress stopped on 2 vegetation fires in Butte County

CAL FIRE crews stopped forward progress on two vegetation fires Thursday afternoon.

BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. – CAL FIRE crews stopped forward progress on two vegetation fires Thursday afternoon.

One sparked around 1:10 p.m. near Highway 70 and Walker Road, called the 70 Fire. The 70 Fire burned three acres.

The second fire started around 1:29 p.m. in Gridley on Farris Road and is called the Farris Fire.

Four structures were threatened by the Farris Fire but have been saved, according to CAL FIRE. One outbuilding was severely damaged. Forward progress on the Farris Fire was stopped at 14 and a half acres.

Crews are on scene mopping up.

Thankfully, the wind is cooperating much better today in northern California. Our weather is still quite hot for this time of year and very dry. There is plenty of haze and smoke from the Fawn Fire overhead, and it isn't leaving yet.
