REDDING, Calif. – Redding Firefighters responded to a small vegetation fire at Benton Airpark Wednesday afternoon.
The vegetation fire started at Benton Airpark along Gold Street around 2:30 p.m, according to crews. Forward progress on the fire stopped at 2 ½ acres around 3 p.m.
Officials at the Redding Fire Department said there is no immediate threat to structures.
RFD told Action News Now they're thankful crews stopped the fire before it went into a nearby drainage, where it could have then made a run toward Mercy Medical Center, offices, and homes.
The fire is believed to be caused by a human because of the amount of transient activity in the area, according to the Redding Fire Department.
Crews are expected to be on scene mopping up until about 5:15 p.m.
