They are working on mopping up and building a containment line.

Cal Fire said there were four confirmed fires, with the largest mapped at 48 acres and the smallest was a 20 by 20 foot spot. The other two fires were a half-acre and just over an acre.

The fires briefly closed the northbound lanes of Highway 70 as well as a part of Table Mountain Boulevard between Garden Drive and Nelson Avenue.

Crews stopped forward progress of the fire in an hour and reopened the lanes.

"As the weather heats up and the grass dries up more, it’s that time of year when people need to be very, very careful," said Rick Carhart with Cal Fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

A small trough of low pressure moved over the Pacific Northwest on this first day of autumn, and it brought more gusty wind and an improvement to the air quality for most of us. The breezes will continue through the week, and other changes are coming soon.
