Firefighters contain early morning vegetation fire in Chico

Chico Fire and Rescue crews contained a vegetation fire early Monday morning.

CHICO, Calif. – Chico Fire and Rescue crews contained a vegetation fire early Monday morning.

The fire broke out around 5:23 a.m. on southbound Highway 99 near Bidwell Park. Crews said the fire was 10 feet wide by 100 feet long, with burning in debris, refuge, and camping tents.

Firefighters knocked down the fire quickly, however, crews said several explosions occurred within the fire.

No victims were found. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
