CHICO, Calif. - Chico Fire Department responded to Comanche Creek just before 6 a.m. Tuesday due to a vegetation fire.
The fire department said the fire was about 50 feet by 30 feet before they contained the fire.
They said the fire was caused by an escaped cooking fire that started at a homeless camp.
Chico Fire Department said they respond to at least 10 encampment fires a week that are generally the same size.
They said the illegal fires are under bridges, at camps and Comanche Creek as cooking fires are the fire department’s biggest concern.
