Authorities say a man was arrested after refusing to leave an evacuated area of the Carr Fire, because he wanted to take photos of the destruction.

The Shasta County Sheriff's Office said 51-year-old Joseph Giambrone, of Redding, was caught in the evacuated area of Middle Creek. It happened on Tuesday, around 5:45 p.m.

Chico Police officers, who were assisting in patrolling the evacuated area, say Giambrone claimed he rode his bike there from the Alta Mesa area. Police say Giambrone wanted to take photos of the Carr Fire destruction.

When police tried to give him a ride out of the area, where he was not allowed to be, they said he refused because he had not taken any photos yet.

Shasta County Sheriff's deputies then arrived on scene and again offered Giambrone a ride. Authorities say Giambrone again refused and admitted he knew it was an area under mandatory evacuation.

He was arrested for entering a disaster area and taken to Shasta County Jail.

Authorities will continue to patrol evacuated areas, to prevent looting, until the Carr Fire is no longer impacting citizens. The Shasta County Sheriff's Tom Bosenko warned that if they find someone in an area they are not supposed to be, they will be arrested.

Winds have calmed down but we remain dry. Temperatures will be in the upper-70s to low-80s for the rest of the week. This quiet weather is good for fire danger but unfortunate since no rain is in the forecast.
