UPDATE 8:58 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2018 - The Copper Fire is 100 percent contained. It burned 53 acres in Lassen County.

UPDATE 9:55 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018 - The Copper Fire is still at 53 acres but is now 95 percent contained.

UPDATE 9:13 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2018 - The Copper Fire is still at 53 acres but is now 90 percent contained.

UPDATE 9:11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2018 - The Copper Fire remains at 53 acres but is now 80 percent contained.

UPDATE 9:28 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24, 2018 - The Copper Fire remains at 53 acres but is now 50 percent contained.

UPDATE 7:35 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, 2018 - The Copper Fire is now 35 percent contained, and has been remapped. It is 53 acres in size.

UPDATE 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, 2018 - The Copper Fire is 57 acres in size and is now 25 percent contained. We have added a few photographs of the fire.

The private timber lands belong to Beatty and Associates.

UPDATE 7:35 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, 2018 - Numbers on the Copper Fire have been revised this morning. The fire is 57 acres in size and is 10 percent contained.

UPDATE 10:15 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018 - According to CAL FIRE officials, the Copper Fire is 80 acres size. This fire has no containment yet.  It is burning on private timber land.

COPPERVALE, Calif. - A wildland fire is burning in timber near McKenzie Meadows and Highway 36, northeast of Westwood in Lassen County.

The fire is approximately 12 acres in size.

The fire was first reported to the CAL FIRE Lassen-Modoc Unit Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018 at 2:45 p.m.

The fire is close to Coppervale and is being called the Copper Fire.

The CAL FIRE Butte Unit dispatched a strike team to the Copper Fire at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. The strike team consists of a battalion chief and five fire engines, each with a crew of three.
