BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. - FEMA has established its first fixed site for Camp Fire evacuees. It is located at  Bidwell Canyon Marina near Lake Oroville.

There are enough trailers there for 70 families. They have water, electricity and waste water drainage on-site.

There has been some concern about impacts to tourism and parking during the busy summer season. However, there are still some 137 campsites in the area, said Aaron Wright, Public Safety Chief for California State Parks.

Wright said, “I would just remind everybody ... we have been impacted by the Camp Fire so make your camping reservations early because I have a feeling all of the campgrounds in the county will be pretty packed.”

A housing update from Butte County after the Camp Fire says FEMA has provided more than $83 million dollars to around 7,900 households.

They also provided an update on five temporary housing sites:

  • The Silver Dollar Fairgounds has 61 trailer spots
  • Rosewood Estates in Oroville has 12 mobile homes on site, with 40 spots planned.
  • Later this month construction will start on 432 mobile home pads at the Gridley Industrial Park
  • 82 pads are planned for Hegan Lane in Chico

It was a bright and breezy Friday for northern California, however the wind has been much stronger over Modoc County where a High Wind Warning is in effect through this evening. Stronger wind and cooler air will define our weather Saturday.
