What You'll Do

  • Produce and anchor the weekend newscasts in an engaging, active manner that connects with our community
  • Go live multiple times each day, sometimes on separate stories
  • Be ready to rock and roll on breaking news whenever it happens.
  • Prepare, write, produce, report, edit, deliver and post news stories and content over multiple platforms
  • Gathers and verifies factual information regarding stories through interview, observation, and research
  • Knowledge and demonstration of editorial judgment, journalistic ethics and libel laws
  • Perform various community service activities for station as assigned
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

What You'll Need

Education and Experience

  • Bachelors in journalism or the live experience equivalent

 

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge and skill using ENPS. 
  • Knowledge of broadcast quality camera equipment.
  • Knowledge of Edius editing systems, or similar editing equipment.

WEEKEND METEOROLOGIST/MMJ OPENING!
Action News Now, the CBS/NBC duopoly covering the beautiful Chico/Redding, CA market has an opportunity for an energetic, highly skilled, and relatable meteorologist to join our weather team.  If you love telling weather stories, using a top of the line Augmented Reality system and helping the viewer understand our weather and not just throw a bunch of numbers out, then we want to talk to you. This is not a “cut and paste” graphics position. This person must be cool under pressure and ready to go at a moment’s notice when it comes to severe, breaking weather stories. This position would also MMJ three days a week and would have to enterprise stories. Northern California has all four seasons but our biggest weather time is during wildfire season and there are plenty of weather stories to tell.  You must be passionate about covering weather, innovative in your weather story-telling and ready to go wall to wall at a moment’s notice.

It’s a great place to get your start if you’re looking for your first Meteorologist job. If you like outdoor activities like biking, hiking, skiing, boating and more and you love telling weather stories then Chico/Redding could be the place for you.

 

What You'll Do

  • Generate original stories and deliver them in an exciting and impactful way
  • Give our viewers the weather information they need and want with accurate, compelling and understandable storytelling and graphics.
  • Give urgent, immediate, and accurate weather in times of severe weather, making sure our viewers are prepared, not scared
  • Must be digital savvy, using multiple social media platforms to get important information out.
  • Ready to go when there is a severe weather event, whether it’s inside the studio or in the field.
  • Will use not just regular graphics but also Live Lineups and Augmented Reality.
  • Must have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of weather science and forecasting.
  • Dynamic, authoritative presence on air that is relatable and easy to understand when giving out important, life-saving information.
  • Go live multiple times each day, sometimes on separate stories
  • Be ready to rock and roll on breaking news whenever it happens.
  • Prepare, write, produce, report, edit, deliver and post news stories and content over multiple platforms

What You'll Need

Education and Experience

Minimum – Bachelor’s Degree in Meteorology or related field experience.

Some on air experience is required, either for your college station or professionally.

  • Knowledge of broadcast quality camera equipment.
  • Knowledge of Edius editing systems, or similar editing equipment.

Broadcast Engineer

KHSL and KNVN TV station (the Heartland Media-owned local Actions News Now, CBS and NBC affiliate) is looking for a Broadcast Engineer. Our engineering/IT team work hands-on installing, maintaining and evolving a broad range of broadcast, IT and office equipment/systems at our facilities in Chico and Redding, CA along with transmitters and network of translators across our DMA.   

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associates degree in electronics or IT equivalent, or electronics military broadcast engineering training, or equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
  • SBE certification is a plus
  • Skilled with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills with demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and client relationship skills; a “team player”
  • Flexibility to work extended hours, as needed, including occasional nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to work outside in a variety of weather conditions
  • Must be able to use, transport, and lift equipment weighing approximately fifty (50) pounds
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid CA driver’s license
