College Station, TX (Sports Network) - Mike Evans, who set multiple receiving records during his two years at Texas A&M, is declaring for the NFL Draft.

Aggies coach Kevin Sumlin announced Thursday that the sophomore wideout would forego his final two seasons of eligibility to turn pro.

Evans said he decided to turn pro "based on what I thought was best for myself and my family."

He had a school-record 1,394 yards receiving and 12 touchdowns on 69 catches this season and twice broke the program record for most yards receiving in a game, gaining 279 against Alabama and 287 against Auburn.

"Mike was one of the team's hardest workers in whatever he was doing, and it paid off for him on the field," said Sumlin. "I think one of the highest compliments you can say about Mike is that he plays as hard when he doesn't have the ball in his hands as when he does."

Evans was a first-team All-SEC selection, consensus All-American and finalist for the 2013 Biletnikoff Award, given to the top receiver in college football.
