Recap: Ohio U vs. Kent State
Athens, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - In the final game of his collegiate career, Dri Archer rushed for 138 yards and three touchdowns, as the Kent State Golden Flashes downed the Ohio University Bobcats, 44-13, in a Mid-American Conference bout at Peden Stadium.
Archer also caught five passes for an additional 53 yards for Kent State (4-8, 3-5 MAC), which closed out its season with back-to-back wins. Colin Reardon threw for 213 yards and a touchdown on 18-of-30 passing. Nate Terhune converted his only rush into a 61-yard score for the visitors.
For Ohio (6-5, 3-4), losers of three straight since becoming bowl eligible, Tyler Tettleton completed just 11-of-24 passes for 132 yards with a touchdown and a pick. Beau Blankenship rushed for 76 yards but he needed 23 carries to get there.
Both teams had to settle for field goals in the first quarter. After Ohio's Josiah Yazdani (20 yards) and Kent State's Anthony Melchiori (47 yards) exchanged kicks early in the frame, Yazdani drilled a 49-yarder with under a minute to go to give Ohio a 6-3 lead.
The first touchdown came early in the second, when Archer ripped off a 24-yard run to put the Golden Flashes on top. However, the Bobcats retook the lead on their next possession when Tettleton connected with Mario Dovell on a one-yard touchdown pass.
The seesaw continued in the final minute of the first half, as Reardon connected with Casey Pierce on an 11-yard touchdown to give Kent State a 17-13 advantage just before intermission.
Kent State pulled away in the second half with 27 unanswered points. Archer rushed in a five-yard score at the 12:02 mark of the third quarter, and less than four minutes later Terhune had his 61-yard touchdown.
Melchiori made two field goals in the fourth quarter (26, 28), and Archer scored on a 29-yard rush late in the game as the Golden Flashes put an exclamation point on the blowout win.
Kent State outgained Ohio on the evening, 537-204. Only 69 of the Bobcats' yards came on the ground.Game Notes
