South Bend, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - Suspended Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson has applied to be readmitted to the school, Fighting Irish coach Brian Kelly said Tuesday.

Kelly said a decision on Golson's application could come "sometime in the middle of December" and that the quarterback would be eligible to practice with the team for a bowl game.

Golson helped lead the Irish to an undefeated regular season last year and a berth in the BCS National Championship game against Alabama before leaving school in May.

While the university was mum on the reason Golson left, citing privacy laws, the quarterback implied in an interview with Sports Illustrated that it was because he "had poor judgement on a test" and not because of his grades.

Asked if he cheated on a test, Golson replied: "Something like that."

He passed for 2,405 yards and 12 touchdowns as a redshirt freshman last season and rushed for 298 yards and another six scores.

Notre Dame (7-3) has two games remaining, against BYU and Stanford. Senior Tommy Rees has started all 10 games at quarterback.
