Recap: Towson vs. Northeastern
Towson, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - David Walker knocked down a shot from beyond the arc with three seconds remaining to lift the Northeastern Huskies to a 57-54 victory over the Towson Tigers in a Colonial Athletic Association thriller at SECU Arena.
Scott Eatherton led Northeastern (6-14, 3-3 CAA) with 19 points and nine rebounds while Zach Stahl tallied 10 points to go along with nine boards. Walker finished with eight points, five rebounds and four steals as the Huskies earned their second win in three outings.
Marcus Damas led the Tigers (12-7, 3-1) with 21 points and Rafriel Guthrie gave the team a spark off the bench with 13 points. Jerrelle Benimon went just 2-of-4 from the floor to net six points, but also pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds. The loss was Towson's first in conference play of the 2013-14 season.
Northeastern got off to a great start and led, 15-7, by the 11:08 mark of the first period. The Huskies knocked down 56.5 percent of their field goal tries including 6-of-8 from 3-point range in the first half en route to a 40-21 lead at the intermission. Towson was limited to just 26.9 percent efficiency from the floor in the opening 20 minutes.
The Tigers improved to hit on 38.1 percent of their shots from the field and also converted 13-of-23 tries at the free-throw line in the second stanza. Towson trailed for the entire period before Four McGlynn made three consecutive foul shots with six seconds left in regulation to tie the score at 54. Northeastern shot just 21.7 percent from the field and made good on only 1-of-8 tries from 3-point range after halftime.
