Recap: Monmouth vs. Quinnipiac
Long Branch, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - Ike Azotam posted a double-double with 24 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Quinnipiac Bobcats over the Monmouth Hawks, 94-77, in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference battle at the MAC.
For the Bobcats (7-5, 2-1 MAAC), Umar Shannon added 23 points and Ousmane Drame, Zaid Hearst and Kasim Chandler each chipped in with 10 points.
Justin Robinson led the Hawks (7-8, 1-3) with 15 points, while Deon Jones scored 14, James Josh finished with 12 and Max DiLeo tallied 10 points.
Quinnipiac shot just 42.4 from the field in the first half but did hit on 5- of-13 from 3-point range, as the Bobcats took a 45-38 lead at the break. Monmouth made 48.5 percent of its field goal tries but missed all five of its 3-point attempts in the half.
After intermission, the Bobcats heated up from the floor, connecting on 59.3 percent of their field goal tries. The Hawks shot 46.7 percent from the field in the second half. Quinnipiac pushed its lead out to as many 23 points as they cruised to victory.
Quinnipiac dominated in the frontcourt, outrebounding Monmouth 45-24 and outscoring the Hawks in the paint, 46-38. The Bobcats also outscored the Hawks at the free-throw line, 27-13.Game Notes
