Recap: Siena vs. Manhattan

Albany, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Rob Poole and Evan Hymes each scored 17 points as the Siena Saints pulled off a 67-63 upset of the Manhattan Jaspers in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference contest at the Times Union Center.

Hymes became the 39th 1,000-point scorer in school history for Siena (12-16, 8-9 MAAC) with his performance. The Saints had lost four of their previous five tilts.

George Beamon tallied 17 points and Emmy Andujar tacked on 14 for Manhattan (20-7, 13-5), which had a six-game winning streak snapped. Rhamel Brown nearly posted a triple-double for the Jaspers with nine points, eight rebounds and nine blocks, which tied a program record he set on Nov. 26 against Fordham.

Siena was able to claim a 34-30 lead at halftime, despite shooting 36.7 percent from the field in the opening frame. Manhattan also struggled with its shooting, netting 36 percent from the floor, while going a paltry 11-of-22 at the free-throw line.

Poor free-throw shooting did the Jaspers in once again in the second frame when they knocked down only 8-of-20 at the foul line. Siena only shot at a 37.9 percent clip in the period, but it was enough to hold on for the win.

Manhattan went 19-of-42 from the free-throw line in the four-point decision. Siena outscored the Jaspers, 19-13, off of turnovers.
