Recap: James Madison vs. Detroit

Harrisonburg, VA (SportsNetwork.com) - Behind Carlton Brundidge's career-high 22 points, the Detroit Titans were able the hold off the James Madison Dukes, 71-67, in non-conference action at the JMU Convocation Center.

Brundidge shot 6-of-9 from the field, including 4-of-6 from 3-point range for Detroit (2-2). Juwan Howard, Jr. added 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists, while Jarod Williams chipped in 11 points for the visitors.

For JMU (2-3), Charles Cooke led the way with 17 points, while Andrey Semenov tallied 14 points and six rebounds. Jackson Kent and Ivan Lukic netted 10 points apiece in the losing effort.

JMU shot 43.5 percent from the field in the first half, compared to 40 percent for Detroit, although it was the Titans who took a slim 33-32 advantage into intermission after going 4-of-12 from 3-point range and 9-of-14 from the foul line in the opening 20 minutes.

Detroit extended its advantage to as many as eight early in the second half, but JMU would not go away, as it cut its deficit to single-digits on several occasions down the stretch. The Dukes were never able to tie the game or take the lead, however, and a pair Brundidge free throws with 10 seconds left sealed a four-point win for the Titans.

Although Detroit shot just 57.8 percent from the free-throw line, it outscored the Dukes from the stripe, 26-18.
