Recap: Denver vs. South Dakota

Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Brett Olson poured in a career-high 30 points, shooting 6-of-8 behind the 3-point line, as the Denver Pioneers pulled out a 75-67 win over the South Dakota Coyotes in Summit League action at Magness Arena.

Olson, who made good on 9-of-14 shots from the floor, was a perfect 6-of-6 at the free-throw line for the Pioneers (12-11, 5-3 Summit) as they won for the fifth time in the last six games. Cam Griffin pitched in with 14 points and nine rebounds, followed by Marcus Byrd with 11 points off the bench.

The Coyotes (9-14, 3-5) were paced by Trey Norris and Adam Thoseby with 15 points apiece, followed by Karim Rowson with 11 and seven boards for a squad that has lost five of the last six.

A close game for much of the first half, it wasn't until the final minutes that Denver began to pull away, using a 3-pointer from half court at the end of the frame by Jalen Love to take a 38-26 lead to intermission. Of the 32 field goal attempts by the Pioneers, 19 were from 3-point range, with the team converting eight.

In the second half the hosts made good on an even 50 percent from the floor and another five triples in order to stay ahead and claim the eight-point win.

The game featured just two ties and two lead changes, so for Denver to turn the ball over just five times was crucial to the outcome.
