Recap: Saint Josephs vs. Rhode Island
Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Paced by a 20-point, nine-rebound effort from Ronald Roberts, the Saint Joseph's Hawks took down the Rhode Island Rams, 61-57, in an Atlantic 10 Conference clash at Hagan Arena.
Roberts shot 7-of-9 from the field for Saint Joseph's (13-5, 3-1 A-10), which has won four straight and nine of 10. Langston Galloway put up 15 points for the hosts, while Halil Kanacevic netted 11 points.
For URI (10-10, 1-4), losers of four of five, Xavier Munford tallied 16 points, eight rebounds and four steals, while Gilvydas Biruta scored 11.
URI shot 41.4 percent from the field in the first half, just barely better than Saint Joseph's (.407). Munford drilled a 3-pointer in the waning seconds of the frame to give the Rams a 30-27 lead heading into intermission.
The Hawks took control of the contest midway through the second half after an 18-2 spurt gave them a 10-point lead with less than seven minutes to play. The Rams brought their deficit to three with under 10 seconds left, but Galloway drained 1-of-2 at the foul line on the other end to make it a two-possession game for Saint Joseph's, effectively sealing the win.
