Recap: South Alabama vs. Detroit
Mobile, AL (SportsNetwork.com) - Mychal Ammons put together a solid double- double with 13 points and 14 rebounds as the South Alabama Jaguars rolled over the Detroit Titans, 74-58, at the Mitchell Center.
Ammons was 5-of-7 from the field and added a pair of blocked shots to his performance for the Jaguars (1-0). Antoine Allen led the squad in scoring with 17 points while shooting 4-of-5 from 3-point range. Aakim Saintil contributed 12 points off the bench and Augustine Rubit pulled down 12 rebounds to go with nine points.
Juwan Howard Jr. led the Titans (0-1) with a double-double of his own as he scored 18 points and cleared 11 rebounds, although he shot just 7-of-22 from the floor and had a game-high four turnovers. Carlton Brundidge managed 14 points and eight rebounds, while Evan Bruinsma and Jarod Williams scored 11 points each. Bruinsma also tallied eight rebounds and three blocks.
Although they shot below 40 percent from the field in the first half, the Jaguars knocked down seven 3-pointers and carried a 45-31 lead into halftime.
The Titans made just 25.6 percent of their shots in the second half, including 1-of-8 beyond the arc after missing all six attempts behind the 3-point line through the first 20 minutes of action.
While the Jaguars struggled from the floor, shooting just 36.4 percent, Detroit shot an extremely poor 28.9 percent and made only 1-of-14 attempts from beyond the arc.Game Notes
