Recap: Georgia State vs. Troy

Atlanta, GA (SportsNetwork.com) - R.J. Hunter paced all scorers with 25 points, as the Georgia State Panthers downed the Troy Trojans, 81-72, at GSU Sports Arena in the Sun Belt Conference opener for each team.

Hunter also swiped seven steals for GSU (8-6, 1-0 Sun Belt), which has won five straight games. Ryan Harrow was also outstanding, tallying 20 points and seven assists, and Curtis Washington put up 10 points.

For Troy (5-8, 0-1), Hunter Williams shot 6-of-9 from 3-point range on his way to 18 points. Kevin Thomas posted a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds but also committed seven turnovers, while Antonie Myers had 14 points and eight boards.

Troy shot 50 percent from the field in the first half, but GSU was even better at 55.2 percent. The Panthers also shot 3-of-8 from 3-point range and 9-of-10 from the foul line in the opening 20 minutes, as they carried a comfortable 44-31 advantage into the break.

GSU's lead never dipped below eight points in the second stanza.

The Trojans biggest downfall was their 23 turnovers, which resulted in 33 points for GSU. Meanwhile, the Panthers coughed the ball up just 10 times.
