Recap: USC vs. California

Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Nikola Jovanovic scored a career-high 23 points on 8-of-10 shooting as the USC Trojans held on to beat the California Golden Bears, 77-69, in Pac-12 action at Galen Center.

Pe'Shon Howard contributed a double-double in the contest, netting 12 points and dishing out 10 assists for USC (10-9, 1-5 Pac-12). Byron Wesley chipped in 14 points and seven rebounds, while Julian Jacobs tallied 12 points off the bench. The Trojans ended a five-game losing streak with the victory.

Justin Cobbs scored 22 points and had six assists to pace California (14-5, 5-1). Jordan Mathews netted 18 points, and David Kravish chipped in 10. The Golden Bears ended a six-game winning streak with the loss, which was their first in the Pac-12 this season.

USC connected on 56 percent of its shots in the first half, and took a 41-32 lead at the break. USC's defense came to play in the first frame, holding Cal to 32 percent shooting in the half.

Cal couldn't get any closer than seven points the rest of the way, with USC attaining its largest lead, 64-49, with 8:30 to play in the second half.

Cal was seeking its first 6-0 start in Pac-12 play since the 2003 season, while USC had lost its five straight games by an average of 22.4 points.
