Recap: Virginia Tech vs. Clemson

Blacksburg, VA (SportsNetwork.com) - K.J. McDaniels led the way with 14 points, as the Clemson Tigers held off the Virginia Tech Hokies, 56-49, in Atlantic Coast Conference action at Cassell Coliseum.

McDaniels was 4-of-9 from the field and 5-of-6 from the free-throw line for Clemson (12-4, 3-1 ACC), which has won four of five. Rod Hall was the only other player in double figures for the visitors with 11 points.

For Virginia Tech (8-8, 1-3), losers of three straight, Devin Wilson matched the game-high with 14 points, while Ben Emelogu and Joey van Zegeren netted 11 apiece.

Clemson shot a modest 40 percent from the field in the first half, but Virginia Tech was even worse at just 38.5 percent, as the Tigers took a slim 25-24 lead into intermission.

The Hokies started the second stanza hot and grabbed hold of a six-point lead with 14 minutes to play, but Clemson regained control with a 10-0 run over the next three minutes. Virginia Tech climbed back to tie the score at 49 with 2:01 remaining, but a three-point play by Adonis Filer on the other end put the Tigers up for good.

Neither team impressed from the foul line. Clemson shot 12-of-20 from the stripe, while Virginia Tech was a lowly 4-of-14.
