Yuba County deputy arrested in Chico loses job

A Yuba County Deputy who was arrested in Chico for allegedly assaulting a man on St. Patrick's Day has lost his job, officials confirmed Friday.

Nelson Magana has been charged with battery with serious bodily injury for allegedly assaulting a man in the restroom of Burgers and Brew. The victim reportedly suffered memory loss, severe headaches, and a neck injury.

On Friday Undersheriff Jerry Reed told Action News Now "Nelson Magana is no longer an employee of Yuba County. The detail of his separation are a personal matter that I am unable to comment on."

Magana is free on $150,000 bail and a trial date has been set for November 10. He faces up to eight years in prison if convicted.
