A Yuba City woman has been sentenced to prison for running an elaborate employment fraud scheme.

Denise Wasicki, 40, of Yuba City, was sentenced to two years and nine months in prison Thursday.

In May Wasicki was convicted of fraud for creating a fake company, and then manipulating a hiring agency into placing her into a job with that fake company.

The scheme started in June 2009 when Wasicki was hired by a staffing agency to fill a temporary position at a hospital in Yuba City.

When the temp job ended, Wasicki, using an alias, created a fake company called Healthcare Quality Management Group.

Using her alias, Wasicki enlisted the services of the same staffing agency, and recommended that the agency place herself, Denise Wasicki, into a management position with Healthcare Quality Management Group.

From July of 2009 to May of 2010, the staffing agency paid Wasicki more than $400,000 to work for her fictitious company.
