The Yuba City police officer who was shot while trying to help a woman up early Tuesday morning has been released from the hospital after undergoing surgery.
Yuba City Police spokeswoman Shawna Pavey released a statement saying the officer had surgery to remove a bullet from his leg.
Pavey said the officer was shot by a woman who was crouched down near a curb when officers approached her early Tuesday. The woman refused to stand, so officer tried to get her up and that's when the gun went off.
The officer is expected to make a full recovery.
