Wrongful death suit filed against city of Redding

A North State couple has filed a wrongful death suit against the city of Redding, Redding police and Redding Police Chief Robert Paoletti.

William and Katherine Robinson say officers beat their 33-year-old son Matthew Robinson, after they were called to deal with a combative patient being transported from Butte County to a Redding Mental Health Facility.

Robinson stopped breathing and died a week later at a Redding hospital.

Family members claim that Robinson, who was bipolar, was confused and upset, but not trying to hurt anyone. They say he was simply just trying to pull away from officers.

The civil suit seeks $15 million, in addition to reimbursement for medical care and funeral expenses.

The Redding City Attorney's Office told Action News Now they have no comment at this time, as it has not yet been served with the complaint.
