Women killed in wrong-way crash identified

The Tehama County Coroner’s Office has identified the two women killed in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 5 early Sunday morning.

The deceased were identified as Rebecca Carter, 41, of Gerber and Trinidad Bersabe, 74, of Milipitas.

The crash happened a little before 1 a.m. Sunday, and according to the California Highway Patrol, dispatch received multiple 911 calls reporting a driver traveling the wrong-way on I-5 moments before the crash happened.

When officers arrived at the scene they a found a BMW engulfed in flames, and a badly damaged Ford Expedition.

Carter, who was the sole occupant of the BMW and Bersabe, who was driving the Expedition were pronounced dead at the scene.

Four other passengers in the Expedition were taken to local hospitals for treatment.

The collision is being investigated by the Red Bluff California Highway Patrol.
