One person was seriously injured Monday night in a suspected DUI crash on Highway 32 near Hamilton City.

The crash was reported just after 10:30 p.m. Monday. CHP officers say 23-year-old Sarah Cooke, of Paradise, was driving eastbound on Highway 32 when she drifted off the road and crashed into a tree.

When CHP officers arrived on the scene Cooke was unconscious, but breathing. Fire crews had to extricate her out of her Honda SUV.

Weather does not appear to be a factor in the crash, and officers believe Cooke was under the influence of alcohol.

There were no passengers or other vehicles involved in the crash. Cooke was transported to Enloe Medical Center with moderate injuries and the CHP has recommended she be charged with misdemeanor DUI.
