LOS ANGELES (AP) - A woman convicted of killing her 90-year-old father and hiding his body in the backyard has been sentenced to 15 years to life in prison.
During Friday's sentencing hearing, Linda Sue Copeland read a statement saying she does not believe she killed her father.
Copeland was convicted in November of second-degree murder in the death of Ralph Stofleth whose remains were discovered near a backyard shed in 2008 after neighbors became concerned that they hadn't seen the World War II veteran for months. An autopsy determined he died of asphyxia.
Evidence presented at trial showed Copeland continued to collect her father's retirement benefits after he was killed.
