The Shasta County Coroner's Office has identified the woman killed in an apartment fire early Saturday morning as 51-year-old Redding resident Kimberly Diehl.

Crews were called out to the two story multiplex apartment building on South Street at around 1:30 a.m., with reports of flames in one of the units.

Firefighters found Diehl unconscious in the upstairs of the unit, she was treated on scene and then transported to Mercy Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

Fire crews were able to knock down the flames quickly keep the blaze from spreading to additional units.

At this time the cause of the fire is unknown and the Redding Fire Department is under investigation.
