SAN FRANCISCO -- The search for a woman who reportedly fell or jumped off the Bay Bridge Wednesday morning following a traffic crash on the bridge is continuing, and the California Highway Patrol is now following up on a report of a woman seen getting out of the water after the incident.

CBS San Francisco reports that the California Highway Patrol, fire crews and the United States Coast Guard are involved in the search, according to the CHP.

The CHP responded at 2:06 a.m. to a report of a crash on eastbound Interstate Highway 80 on the bridge just east of the Treasure Island off-ramp.

Responding officers located a crash involving a single vehicle and a person standing off the roadway on the bike path.

Two women had reportedly left the scene of the crash and were seen walking east on the bike path.

When an officer approached them, the woman who they think was the driver was hanging on to the railing and then fell or jumped off and into the Bay. It's a drop of about 75 feet into cold water about 50-60 degrees.

CBS San Francisco is hearing that the people involved in the accident may have been robbery suspects, but that's unconfirmed.

One eastbound lane of the bridge was closed for several hours as emergency crews searched for the woman.

The CHP received few reports just before 6 a.m. that a woman who was wet tried to flag down drivers near the Bay Bridge. They haven't been able to confirm that.

The CHP is also advising commuters there will be an extra presence Wednesday morning near the Bay Bridge toll plaza due to the earlier incident.
