A woman who became combative with sheriff's deputies after they stopped her along Highway 99 last week is facing a charge for allegedly beating the sheriff's dog sent to apprehend her.

Deputies contacted Mary Thomas, 27, as she was walking along Highway 99 near 64th avenue in Los Molinos last Tuesday afternoon.

Thomas allegedly charged at a deputy, and tried to hit him in the face. Deputies deployed the k-9 and Thomas continued to put up a fight. Thomas finally gave up and was taken into custody after being bit on the arm and back several times.

Thomas was arrested and taken to a local hospital for treatment for her bites. She has since been booked on suspicion of resisting a peace officer and battery on a canine.

The dog was uninjured.
