Nazira Maria Cross, 48, a Costa Rican national, allegedly poisoned her husband then drove him to Nevada where the couple owned a ranch and buried him on the property. While waiting for the autopsy results Cross fled and has remained a fugitive until her capture earlier today.
The United States has a pending extradition request for the return of Cross and will continue to work closely with the Peruvian Government authorities, in accordance with the extradition treaty with Peru, to ensure Cross' return to face prosecution.
Cross's federal fugitive poster has appeared on the Sacramento FBI's website since 2008, when it was first distributed and both domestic and international media has profiled the international search for Cross. Due to recent rebroadcast of information about Cross, the FBI received information indicating that Cross was residing in Peru.
