A Redding man was able to help authorities arrest a woman early this morning after she allegedly vandalized his home and tried to stab him.

According to a press release, the Redding Police Department responded to a disturbance call at the 600 block of Loma Street regarding a physical disturbance with a possible stabbing around 12:10 a.m.

When officers arrived they found the resident, Leon Devoid, 67, had a woman pinned to the ground.

Police say the woman, Britnee Kemp, 27, had knocked on Devoid’s front door, and upon being asked to leave she tore a sign out of his front yard and then threw a concrete brick at his front window.

Devoid went outside to stop Kemp from doing any damage to the window. Kemp then tried to stab Devoid with an ice pick several times while verbally threatening to kill him.

Devoid ultimately brought Kemp to the ground and was able to keep her pinned to the ground until police arrived.

Kemp was arrested and booked into the Shasta County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats, and battery.
