Woman arrested for alleged stabbing, assault and robbery in Chico

The Chico Police Department arrested a woman this morning for allegedly stabbing a woman around 7:00 a.m. and then assaulting and robbing two Chico High School students after 9:00 a.m.

The woman, Laura Gray, 50, from Chico was arrested on Arcadian Avenue between West Sacramento and First Avenues after the incident with two Chico High students. The suspect demanded a backpack from one of the students and assaulted two other students with a stick.

Police say the description provided by the high school students matched the description of a suspect wanted in connection with a stabbing that had occurred earlier in the morning.

The stabbing happened at 7:00 a.m. a few blocks down on Arcadian Avenue.

According to Chico Police, the victim was outside when the female confronted the woman and stabbed her with a knife, Police Officers were able to retrieve a knife at the scene.

Chico Police Sgt. Rob Merrifield stated he did not know if the knife was the same one used in the early morning stabbing.

The suspect said she had been outside collecting aluminum cans in an alley at the 1200 block of Citrus Avenue around 6:30 a.m. when she was confronted by a woman who called her a demon and attacked her.

Two detectives located the suspect and arrested her on Arcadian Avenue just before 10:00 a.m.

The stabbing victim suffered a non-life threatening stab wound and has been released from Enloe Hospital.
