MONTEREY PARK, Calif. (AP) - Authorities have charged a woman with killing a 15-year-old Los Angeles-area girl who was kidnapped as she walked to school, raped and beaten to death 12 years ago.

Prosecutors say 27-year-old Rosemary Chavira, who was also 15 at the time, pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to murder with gang allegations and special circumstances. She was ordered held without bail and faces life in prison without parole if convicted.

Chavira was arrested last Friday near her Lancaster home. Authorities say they expect to charge at least three other people with the death of Brenda Sierra, who was abducted as she walked to school in Montebello in October of 2002. Her body was later found in the San Bernardino Mountains.

Investigators haven't mentioned a specific motive for the attack.
