A Shasta County woman is behind bars and facing an attempted murder charge for allegedly shooting her husband. It happened just after 12:30 a.m. at a home on Lewis Lane near Highway 299 in Bella Vista. Deputies were called out to the house earlier where Joy Edwards was reportedly intoxicated and had been arguing with her husband Ralph. Authorities left the scene after calming Joy down, but they would be called out again for a report of shots fired.
When authorities arrive on scene they found the husband with a gunshot wound to his midsection. He was taken to Mercy Medical Center where he treated for non life threatening injuries.
Meanwhile, deputies say Joy refused to come out of the home. After more than an hour she finally walked out the front door, but when she tried to run back inside deputies fired two bean bag rounds to stop her. Authorities did find a handgun inside the house. Joy Edwards received medical treatment before being booked on an attempted murder charge.
