With rain in the forecast and Redding struggling to meet state mandated water conservation targets, city officials are asking people to quit watering their yards.
The National Weather Service is predicting showers Tuesday, Wednesday and again early next week.
City officials say the moisture, coupled with cooler temperatures, significantly lessens the need for lawn and shrub irrigation.
Redding has been ordered to cut usage by 36 percent, but the October conservation rate as of Sunday is just 15 percent.
The state Water Resources Control Board has the power to fine water agencies up to $10,000 per day for failing to conserve. Redding has yet to be fined, but city officials are concerned that if conservation efforts aren’t improved fines are inevitable.
