While drought conditions are a concern across the state, Chico's water purveyor said Chico's water supply is adequate.
Cal Water has more than 70 wells in Chico. Each draws from the north state's Tuscan Aquifer. The aquifer draws from the natural elements, like rain and snow.
In times of drought, the aquifer is will not be “recharged.”
“It's something we really monitor closely,” Cal Water Asst. District Manager Pete Bonacich said. “Right now we've got historic lows in a few of our wells, but overall it's pretty stable at this point in time.”
While Governor Jerry Brown has not officially declared a state of drought, Bonacich said he expects to see that happen soon.
